How does the program work?
Citizenship Education has three parts to
extend throughout the school year. Once you're registered, download the
materials, then print and copy.
1
In September, teach a series of five
lessons designed to help students engage the tools for ethical citizenship. Together
you’ll explore concepts of citizenship and encourage awareness of
heroism in both everyday and extraordinary acts.
2 From October
through April, teach one lesson per month. These seven lessons combine
provocative content and solid, skill-building activities.
3 To culminate
the learning process, your teaching team and students will collaboratively
plan a Tom Burnett Memorial Day of Service
using the mini-lessons included in the curriculum.
Your students will have an opportunity to reach out into
the community and develop their values of service, empathy, and compassion.
The event is a very meaningful way to wrap up the school year.
